Although his parents wanted him to take up farming at an early age, Elango fought his way up, did well in academics, finished as a topper at district level in school final exams. Went on to take his chemical engineering diploma after PUC, then completed two years petroleum processing training and obtained the graduation in Chemical Engineering. He ultimately became a researcher in CSIR in the field of electro chemicals and batteries. Stayed in research for nine and half years, but he gave up the job as he found his calling after the late PM Rajiv Gandhi initiated panchayat raj system which later came as the famous 73rd constitutional amendment.
